Bridgeport uses ACE funds to revitalize swim pond

The City of Bridgeport, Neb., recently used their ACE distribution funds to help revitalize an old local community swimming and fishing pond which has since been dedicated as a park to recognize Morrill County veterans.

A ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony to celebrate the completed project was held on Memorial Day in late May.

The swimming and fishing pond was used by kids for decades until the City opened a community swimming pool in the 1970s, Bridgeport Mayor Gail Beyer recently told the Scottsbluff Star-Herald.

Beyer told the paper she wanted to clean up the pond so children and visitors could enjoy it again. A local committee along with local officials and contractors worked together to resurrect the pond, which now features fishing jetties, park benches and a picnic table.

Earlier this year Bridgeport received nearly $7,000 from ACE’s revenue distribution program as part of ACE’s overall distribution of $350,000 to ACE member communities.

Overall Bridgeport has received nearly $73,000 in ACE distribution funds as ACE has returned nearly $4 million to its Nebraska member communities for community improvement projects since its formation in 1998.
